Greets, this is my first time usage of ubuntu. After picking up a cheap laptop, i decided to convert it from XP to Ubuntu 8.04... The laptop is a Dell latitude C600, with 265 ram, 700 megz, 20gig hd... I was just wondering if anyone has any times of the trade or little shorts cuts, in general any new info for a person like me... I have no knowledge of this OS and I have no computer programming skills at this current time; which are my main reasons for picking this up...

~~Also everytime i try to install i hit about step 3 or 4 then the courser goes to the loading one, and my screen goes blank after a few minutes, but the laptop is still running.... Anyone got any ideas? or is this just my laptop over heating? or is it the battery? Or maybe i need to go into the BIOS and set up the screen to not turn off after x amonut of time~~

Anyways just wanted to drop a line and say hello to the forums...

:D

You probably need more ram to install. You could try Xubuntu or adding more ram. Good luck! If you need any help just stop by IRC channel #ubuntu-us-oh.

Definitley try Xubuntu. I got that running on a 450mhz with 128mb ram. Now I am using Ubuntu-EEE on my EeePC 900 4g with 900mhz.
