help me to use mathematica

Recently I have updated by ubuntu to version 8.04 (Hardy). After that my mathematica show nothing but some peculiar symbols and white space.

The version of my mathematica is 6.0.2. What should I do?

Or else

Disable compiz (Right click on desktop --> Change desktop background --> Visual effects --> Choose none)

And then start Mathematica from the command line

mathematica -defaultvisual
