We can now 'network', we have an older desktop and a new laptop. The new laptop has Vista installed and I intend to dual boot Hardy. The desktop doesn't have a cd player/drive.

The desktop runs a dual boot but we use Hardy almost all the time. It is as near to perfect as you can get!

I have a months old 'official' Ubuntu disk which I intend to use to add Hardy to the laptop. Then I hope to transfer from the desktop via the new network to the laptop.

The question is; What is the best way to upgrade Hardy so it is the same as my desktop?

You cannot have the *exact* same configuration because the hardware is different.

Do you want to have nearly the same working experience as you had earlier. I would think that you better paste the hardware specs of your new laptop like - Processor, mainboard, graphics card, lan chipset, wireless chipset and all those things for which you need drivers on windows.
