as soon as i login to gnome, the screen goes default orange as it is loading, but instead of the panels and background appearing, it stays on orange.

Im pretty sure this is a gnome specific problem because im typing this after logging in through fluxbox.

the top processes while trying to login are seahorse-agent, gnome-settings and gnome-session. neither one eating up ridiculous amounts of cpu.

i've tried resetting all my gnome settings to default using
rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity

the only things i was changing today were some theme settings and installing a few IM clients to test drive. any help would be much appreciated...
