So I've tried ubuntu a few times on and off over the past few years, but I really want to dedicate myself to switching this time, especially since I play on purchasing an Xbox 360 for gaming. I seem to be having one issue, however.
I have had troubles in the past with my Soundblaster Audigy SE, but they always involved not getting any sound whatsoever. When I get to the login screen for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS it plays the sound of the drums over my speakers, but I get no sound otherwise. Nothing happens for music of videos in multiple programs that I've tried (including VLC), and programs such as Pidgin don't make their normal noises.
However, in Firefox sound works fine. I'm listening to music from Pandora right now, and the audio from youtube videos is loud and clear.
Any ideas?
