Hi All!
I have become quite a fan of Ubuntu, after I have given it a try in my laptop and the desktop. Now, as our RedHat server support has recently come to an end, I am considering Ubuntu 8.04 (LTS) Server edition for our departmental lab where the server is supposed serve the LAN of about 40 desktops. There are a few questions, I would like to know :
1. Is it worth considering to replace the existing system with Ubuntu 8.04 Server and desktop editions?
2. I want to create a local repository (of only the required package) for my desktop for an automatic installation. I have come across instructions on mirroring the Ubuntu repository but that requires a lot of bandwidth. Anyway my users will not use all the packages. So I want to create a customized repository. How to do that?
3. Is there a good tutorial with example files for automatic desktop installtion (something like RH Kickstart mechanism)?
Any help regarding these questions will be most welcome. Regards,
