I just installed Ubuntu (hardy) and the system automatically updated to the proprietary Nvidia driver. I thought all was well, but when I went to change the screen resolution under "system/preferences", it only gives me very low refresh rates (<60) and the "detect displays" button appears to do nothing. I know this monitor will do 1024x768 at 85Hz, and at least 70hz for 1280x1024, but it only gives me up to 52Hz and 66Hz, respectively. Further, 1024x768 looks terrible, for some reason.
Can anyone walk me through how to get reasonable refresh rates?

Any help on the generic nVidia driver?

Ok, I figured it out. I had to install the "nvidia-settings" application via the software manager, then run the "Nvidia X Server Settings" program that appears under "system/administration". Thanks for listening though!

I'm finding the same problem often. What did you do with "Nvidia X Server Settings" ?
Changed some parameter or simply run the utility?
