Just wondering if I fall under this category, and am also wondering if this will affect your laptops up and coming?
I havnt looked at ati for awhile given the bad press they have gotten with linux. However, given the fact that they now have open drivers, and with this bad press with nvidia, my next purchase might have to be ATI...
I think I have a 8600gs?
Have you guys at system76 heard anything else about this?
Has anyone? Does your newest models get effected?

A lot of the comments in the slashdot response claim that (and seem to show supporting evidence that) the author of the inquirer article has been biased against Nvidia for years. Apparently around five years ago he leaked confidential Nvidia info, Nvidia cut him out of their loop for it, and he's written only unflattering articles since.

I got a (fanless) 9600GT a week ago and no problems yet.

How does the warranty work and what is the procedure if we get a system76 laptop with a nvidia chip that dies on us?

Yah, definitely a bias, I read that as well. If hes right though...
Now consider this, what if nvidia goes bankrupt? Not saying it will happen, but its an interesting concept. With intel advanving into the graphics market now with their own line, and amd already having ATI, what happens?
If they went bankrupt, what do you think the best course of action would be?

If something goes wrong within the warranty period of your computer, System76 deals with it.
I'm not aware that this problem (um... if it *is* a problem) affects anything we have put out so far, but we will be watching the situation.

So I assume the laptop comes with a shipping sticker that covers the shipping back?

No, it doesn't come with a return mailing label.
If you have a technical support issue, we work with you over the phone/email to fix it. If we discover that it is a hardware problem, we will send you the repair part, or, if you don't feel comfortable replacing the part, we will send you a return shipping label.
If the problem turned out to be a motherboard or graphics card related failure, we would definitely bring it in for repairs.
