Hey guys. Im building a ubuntu box with some of the summer money ive made working at my school. Im buying a shuttle barebones, which has the mobo and PSU included. So i just have to buy some ram and a processor. This is what i found:

Unfortunately im stuck with 2 gigs of ram cuz of mobo limitations, but I'm pretty sure 2 gigs is plenty to run ubuntu nicely.
What do you think of those? How well will they work together?
Thanks,
Dan

They should work fine. What graphics card will you be using, as these are the cause of many issues.
Also, you may consider a quad core processor (if the motherboard supports it), such as the Q6600. This has a stock speed of 2.4Ghz but can be overclocked like crazy!

Hi and please do not make multiple threads on the same subject. Threads merged. :)

Overdrank: Sorry man.
WRDN- I'm going to use the onboard Intel GMA 950. Ive heard it runs Compiz nicely. And on your comment about the quad-core: Well, the mobo doesnt support it. Lol. And even if it did, my budget is kind of limited. And if i go with the quad core, I may end up with not enough money to get some other hardware i want. But will that processor work well? I'm not going to be doing really intensive things on this ubuntu box. Just internet, documents, all that good stuff. I got sick of this slow windows machine that takes 30 second to open up my computer, and dual booting isnt much fun.
