Maximum resolution when you installed your graphics card by using 'Hardware Drivers'?

If you have installed the drivers for your graphics card (ATI or NVIDIA) by using 'Hardware Drivers' (before), what was the maximum resolution you could ever get without ever using NVIDIA or ATI X Server Settings? And what is your graphics card?

I only have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 4000 graphics card, and I could only get a resolution of 1024 x 768.
