i have a desktop with 4gb ram (im sure that would be enough) and want to boot ubuntu to ram. unfortunatly i can only find how to boot hte cd toram. anyone know how to acomplish this?

I'm not sure what you're asking.
It looks like you want to run Ubuntu without actually installing it on your computer?

No, he wants to run the whole OS from ram. Like you can with Puppy or DSL.
I'm not sure if there's a way to do this or not, but I'd guess you'd still be using a lot of your ram just for the OS. Once you open up a few apps, depending on which ones, you might start getting a little low on memory.

i take it you have tried appending 'toram' to the end of the kernel line in grub?
