I already know about the Doom 3 mod called Last Man Standing but co-op mods are very laggy on D3, and the networking isn't great to begin with.

Some kind of zombie mod for a native game would be cool.
---
Requirements:

Native Linux version
Online co-op, not just LAN play, and has to have other people playing online
Not any normal team-based shooter (especially not something as bad as Counter-Strike)
First-person preferred, but other types (overhead view and such) may be enjoyable as well, as long as the controls are decent (example of poor movement control in a game: Resident Evil 4, since you can't move left and right)

Again, an FPS being team-based does not make it co-op.

Bumping this for any other suggestions.

Urban Terror
Co-operative being the key word, and by that I don't really mean any normal team-based FPS.

No idea what do you mean by cooperative or what game are you looking for. S2 is very much teamwork based though (has squads within the game also) if you're looking for that kind of cooperation.

By co-operative I mean either:

playing through a game's storyline with multiple people
games with heavy emphasis on teamwork where it's basically impossible to go alone

Left 4 Dead is a good example of both.

This excludes normal team-based FPSs like Counter-Strike, Urban Terror, or anything like that. Technically you could call those "co-op", but you could also call every FPS an RPG because you play the role of a character and view everything through his or her eyes.

I will definitely try out Savage 2.

All except the first-person shooter part, right? ;) It looks fun, anyway, but now I've got to get Unreal Tournament 2004.

Whoops, my bad. But yes, it is definitely still fun and co-op oriented.

UT2004 is routinely sold for less than $10 on gogamer.com as part of the anthology. Here is the anthology for $15 at the moment.

No Linux installer on Unreal Anthology. :( It seems like too much trouble to get it to work and so maybe I should just find a used UT2004.

Team-based isn't the same as co-operative, and I want something native.

If you can tell me how to play Doom 1 & 2 online co-operatively with other people, I might try it.
