Hi

Just purchased a new laptop HP DV9820EA AMD x64 Nvidia GeForce 8400M. Removed Vista and attempting to install Ubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu on Intel 32 & 64 bit machines before but this is the first AMD x64 machine I have attempted.

Following other threads I have installed using the 7.04 AMD x64 Alternate CD. I got around the freeze at 85% installing britty-x11 issue by not configuring networking.

However after completing the install I get a blank screen!

If I reboot and press Esc I get the Grub options. If I select the "Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-15-generic (recovery mode)" I can get to a root # prompt.

I am assuming it be a video driver issue, but this is where I get stuck and any advice would be gratful.

Why don't you try to install the latest version of Ubuntu ?
