Whenever I download a .torrent file in firefox3, it wants to open in bittorrent, however there is an "Other", but it brings me to my /home folder, and I have no idea where transmission is actually installed to, how do I make certain files load in default clients in firefox?

Transmission should be in /usr/bin/transmission.

as a side note, you can always find out the location of any command by typing

which commandname

Transmission should be in /usr/bin/transmission.

I found the binary there, yet firefox still reverts to "BitTorrent download client" which is not nearly as nice as Transmission.

Any ideas?

Not sure WBarry, I'm on Lucid and Ryadt's suggestion worked fine for me. Thanks Ry.
