Hi,
I am trying to make a slideshow with a bunch of photographs and want to add a n audio mp3 song to it. I am using KDEnlive for that. My problem is that I am unable to find good tutorials on it. I dont know how to merge the slideshow I created with the mp3 song that I have.
Also, my slideshow is longer than the audio song, so I want my song to keep repeating itself.
has anyone used Kdenlive before in a similar project.
Please help me find a good tutorial that will give me step by step instructions to do the needful. I am new to media editing and this is my 1st project.
Please Help!

@Creative2
The first link you listed is banned in China (as is all of kdenlive.org), so I have to onion route to see them, then download these huge, huge files which are in .flv for some reason.
The second link is very clean, no need for flash or downloading, and a really clear guide. I'm using it and liking it a lot. Hopefully I'll have some movies ready for Youtube soon! Thanks

Are you on 8.10 or 9.04? Your profile doesn't list what you're using. Kdenlive isn't recommended for 8.04 users.

Kdenlive is very stable in Jaunty, but the tutorials suck, for lack of the better word. I've played around with it quite a bit and managed to get it to do a lot of the stuff I needed, and I have done a few sideshows with it too.
It is trial by fire.
The GUI is a bit goofy in some areas like setting up key-points for some video effects, but over all it will get you what you need in a basic. well produced. video.
I'm a little confused as to why the flash tutorials would be band in China? That is a strange one because I could not see anything in there would have anything todo with politics, or offend that country's ideology?
I don't know how good your French is, but the best tutorials are in French http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/kdenlive/ , as are the best installation how-to's. So hopefully someone will put together a PDF or easy-to-follow WIKI, like MainActor did before they took their Linux version out of service.

As far as creating slidewhows and merging audio to it, well, it does have a very good editing user interface for that. You just have to be creative, like using crossfades and cut and paste edit points for both audio and video. You can make a audio clip as long as you want, but you need to do some critial edidting to make it sound good.
I really like Kdenlive, and so far it is the best non-commercial video editor that I've used with Ubuntu.

BCtom: Many websites like kdenlive.org share servers that are banned for political reasons here in China. Kdenlive.org certainly doesn't post banned content, but maybe their server hosts other sites that do. Also, the Chinese government has something that can only be called a vehement fetish for Bill Gates, Windows and all Windows products. They've effectively banned the use of routers with Ubuntu in mainland China as well. IBM's used to not have the eerie Windows super key on their keyboards, but after they were bought by the Chinese, yup there they are. Part of the fetish is cleptomania, as they don't actually buy Windows products - even high-level government offices do not buy them. They seem to like stealing for the thrill of stealing, as better products are available completely for free.
They seem to discourage the use of Linux in part because their blocking technologies and cybercops seem to work chiefly on Windows platform. A common sight is large propaganda boards which are bleeping out of control because of some virus. I have some video of this and it's hilarious.
I wonder if Kdenlive.org is banned simply for being a Linux program. At times ubuntu forums here are strictly patrolled to the point that it takes me ten minutes (no exaggeration) to open one page.
I don't know French well but I can guess some of it because I know Esperanto. The video tuts are not very usable still for the reasons stated above.

I have (among a bunch of other updated packages) the latest 0.7.5 version (for the moment) of Kdenlive 0.7.5 and version 0.4.4 of the MLT engine for it on my repo for ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty) for anyone who like to give it a try.
You find my repo at the url in my signature and at the site you also find instructions on how to add the repo if you have any problems with that.
Have fun!

Well, if Kdenlive becomes popular then there is a slim chance that it could be ported to Window$, and maybe then that twisted sense of capitalism may open this door a little bit wider. But this weird ideology that China seems to have that you bring up is down right messed up. Ubuntu, or Linux for that matter is probably the most prolific beacon of communism that I can think of. It's free, community founded and knows no classism--it mocks all Western concepts. I think Carl Marx would be very pleased with this--and so should China.

BCtom: in the vein of Dostoevsky: If Karl Marx suddenly appeared in Beijing, the government there would murder him. And yes, the opposition to collaborative efforts is perverted and futile. Phillip5: I'll have to check out that repo of yours. Kdenlive is a very promising work.

Phillip5, I've just used your repository and upgraded to 0.7.5. This has fixed some of the issues that I had with it before. Thanks for your work.
I should also say that becuase of the MLT 0.4.4 and Kdenlive are laoding into the /user/local directory, you must uninstall them before you can do the upgrade to 0.7.5 as I could not load any video clips into it from my first attempt. The Kdenlive web site explaines this:
http://kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/ubuntu-packages
..and I'm really happy that it interfaces with my DV camera through firewire now! Very nice :)

I just checked the web site and it seems to be up and running right now.

I should also let you know that Kdenlive 0.7.5 is now in the repositories. Just go to your System --> Administration --> Synaptic Package manager, and type in Kdenlive. Just check-off Kdenlive and all of the necessary files will automaticlly load with it.
Hope that helps ouy out.
Cheers.

Arjuna6,
Opps, my bad. I completely forgot that this is third party software and you do have to add the repository to your package installer.
Here is the link.
http://kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/ubuntu-packages
Sorry about that. Once you have the third party app listed than it shows up in the sysnaptic package installer.

If you live in a country where web pages can be banned, then I suggest installing and setting up TOR.
sudo apt-get install tor
sudo apt-get install privoxy
Then install "torbutton" in your firefox browser. Activate, and you'll see kdenlive.org. (tor is slow so you may want to use two separate browsers at a time. Use seamonkey, icecat or something else for non-proxy browsing).

Would it make a difference just to put the app address and signature information here, like a direct quote from kdenlive's web site, or do you need all that anyway to bypass a particular country's censorship-even with the synaptic application loader?
I completely forgot that China has blocked people from that web site.

I can't really understand this question. If the kdenlive server is blocked, then I can't get anything from them save through TOR. I opened the site through TOR and followed the download and install instructions from there. I don't think the server they're using for the software download and their webpage is the same, as I seemed to do everything just fine through command line (if I remember correctly!). So much hit and miss, coming through China. Ugh.

I should check to see if it's OK to post the down-load information directly from Kdenlive's web site to here on the Ubuntu forums.
