Yes you have several options:
1. Skype
2. Wengophone
3. Empathy

Personally if you have a google account. Try out Empathy, its still in the works. You can install the latest from the PPA in Launchpad. Google search "ppa telepathy"

I understand this could be done with netcat, but I'm not quite sure how. Maybe I should look into it.

One giant Teamspeak server would do it. Maybe like 50 slots and a bunch of channels. :)

go for it. i know i wont be using it. been there, done that.

this message board is more than enough for me. i'll let the younger people duke it out on voice chat.
