I am using Ubuntu (7.10) on an old pc right now that has all of my music/videos/pictures. I will soon be getting a macbook for college and would like to have all of my music/pictures/videos/etc. on the macbook.

So I have this external drive with all my stuff that I figured I could just use to transfer my files.

*My problem is that my external is ext3 and I know OS X doesn't like to play nice with ext3. Basically I want to pursue the easiest route of getting everything from my linuxbox onto my new mac. Whether that's somehow getting the mac to work with ext3, or reformatting my external to a filesystem that does work with a mac, I am willing to take any and all suggestions.

First question: is there anything on the external? If not, reformatting it to a FAT filesystem might be a decent bet. As for how to make the EXT3 work with a Mac, I am unsure. I never had problems back when I used my MacBook, but I've heard there are problems.

Also this program may be of help - a Mac program for EXT2 filesystems:
