Problem running 3d games

Hi, I installed Tux Racer and Tux Cartracing. But I can't really play them, if I start the app the screen starts flickering and I see bits and pieces of the gameplay.
I got a ATI graphics card and installed all packages and drivers for it.

Can anyone help?

Try clicking on 'System' Navigate though 'Preferences' -> 'Appearance' and select the 'Visual Effects' tab. What happens when you check 'Normal' and/or 'Extra'. This is an easy way to check if graphics acceleration is OK.

I tried out the settings on extra it works just fine. It's the 3d apps that still don't run smoothly.

Did I miss any updates?? or drivers?

i have a similar thing...when i run 3d apps (and some 2d like maryo chronicals) i get black flickers...either 2 (one on top and one on bottom) or 1 in the middle...the flicker decreases when i set desktop effects to "none" then it decreases but is still there
