View Full Version : [ubuntu] Thoughts on Unbuntu running XP in VM on HP dv6775us

I have used Ubuntu before (on some really old hardware), but a few months back I bought an HP dv6775us laptop which came pre-loaded with Vista. Vista has been a nightmare (and I am a seasoned IT guy) and even after wiping everything out and re-installing Vista things are still terrible (slow being a big issue). I attempted to put XP on this laptop, but no dice, it is very tricky to get XP to run on the newer HP laptops and I just don't feel like dealing with the process. So as someone who loves VM (after using it on Microsoft based systems), I figured I could have the best of both worlds by wiping out my laptop, installing Ubuntu and then running XP inside one of the virtualization products available (as I need XP for certain applications). I was just curious as what to expect running this on a newer HP (model: dv6775us) and wanted people's thoughts on this move.

Thanks,
Daniel

Should be good in Virtualbox, though you may have activation problems unless you have a new, unused xp install CD.
