vmware 6.5 rc 3d acceleration not working

Trying out the new rc hoping I could get the 3d working, but no joy. I get this popup. "This computer does not have a 3d graphics supported by vmware workstation."

Does the 3d support not get passed though on some cards/drivers? I've got an ATI Radeon 9200 PRO.

glxgears works fine.

i get this
$ glxinfo | grep direct
direct rendering: Yes

I do not have xserver-xgl installed, nor are there any drivers listed under Hardware Drivers.

bump, I have the same problem, Vmware 6.5 running on Ubuntu 8.10 with Windows 7 installed
