Hi,
I need to install X on one of my 8.04 servers. How is that accomplished without installing gnome or KDE at the same time. I need something more low end. I guess sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop will install gnome with all it's features and I really don't need all that for this server.

Thanx,

Try installing LXDE from the repo's and it should install everything you need for X server also (it's a lightweight desktop using OpenBox and PcManFM).

You could try XCFE. It's light and trim. Just curious why you need X. Maybe we can find a better solution?

I need X on the server to configure an application that has a "gui only" approach to it's settings

What app is that? Interesting.
