RTCW GOY (& other FPS's?) - Map & sound stutter every 10 seconds!

Is anyone else using kubuntu-desktop having this problem? I already posted (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=89171) in the GNOME gaming forum thinking it wasn't desktop specific, but found that running in xfce fixed the issue. If anyone can shed some light on this I would be very appreciative. Thanks, all!

Not sure how you're running your desktop, but I had a similar problem with dvd playback. The problem was my taskbar was taking snapshots of the active processes every 10 seconds, which made everything 'stutter' for a second. If you have this enabled, simply turn it off :)

I think I have this problem too.

I have sound but it jumps at a specific interval. And though DMA is enabled I get regular flickers too.

How would one turn off the taskbar doing the snapshots of active processes?
