Is there a way to switch from a game running in wine to the desktop? I play WoW and really need to switch back and forth to Firefox for Thottbot. I tried the old <Atl Tab> but it just shows WoW.

You could run it in a virtual desktop that is smaller than your actual screens resolution, that's what I do when I play any game using wine

Generally i find it best to 'always' game windowed with Ubuntu so that if anything goes wrong there is a chance you can work your way out of it without having to logout and back in.

You can try what I do.
Make sure to NOT run WoW in window mode. When you load up the game go into video options and then: check vertical sync, check windowed mode, then check maximize and also check disable resize.
Tell me if it works.
Edit:
I usually move to another workspace to open up thottbot or wowhead. But if you're still trying to alt + tab then open up firefox BEFORE you start WoW. Then you'll be able to move to the net to get quest help etc.

Is it possible to change desktop while in game?
CTRL + ALT + left/right
You could run the browser on another desktop.
