Well, after fiddling around with Ubuntu for a month I decided that I didn't use Ubuntu enough to be worth the space it was occupying (not having the ability to run drivers or executable files was the biggie) So I deleted the partition.

Now I am getting a grub error 17 and can't boot my windows Vista (which was on another partition)
I have a dell and am not too familiar with bios.

I would really love to hear how to fix it so vista boots normally, not how to get ubuntu to run exe's or anything, so if anyone could help me restore my computer to a pre-ubuntu state that would be awesome.

i already tried putting the vista cd in and repairing the mbr.

once again, thanks if anyone can help me

There are many MBR tools out there if you run a couple searches for them. One that I normally recommend that might be able to help you out is the Super GRUB Disk. It should be able to restore your original MBR. You can get it at:
www.supergrubdisk.org
