error in LAMP

Im a new user in ubuntu.Im trying to install LAMP but i there is an error saying failed to fetch http://.... try to run apt-get update to correct the problem. But still i cant connect..Help pls..

Probably need more info...
How does this machine connect to internet (router, etc). Is it configured for DHCP or static address (I prefer static for servers, but for initial setup, DHCP can be easier). Is it operational - except for update? Is it accessible ("pingable") from another machine?
