Well this is kind of a guide erm well more of hint/help :lolflag:.
I would just like to tell people who would want to use old Apple Power Mac computers with Linux.
There are two main kind of Power Mac called OLD world & NEW world this is defined by the kind of firmware that is used in the systems.
Any Power Mac that is Pre G3 Blue & White is OLD world any think B&W to G5 is NEW world.
It is recommended that you use NEW world Mac for installing Linux as they tend to let you install with no problems and 9 times out of 10 just work with a OLD world mac some of the newer distro's have to be installed on 2nd partition or hard drive then use OS 9 and copy some files over to mac it fully boot Linux (only did this one time and i hated it). Some distro's will just work on OLD world macs but from what i have been told with Ubuntu & Suse there has to be some hacking done so just save the time and get a NEW world mac.
WARNING if you are thinking about buying a old Power Mac G3 Blue & White make sure its the newer REV 2 model as this has support for master & slave hard drives where as REV 1 cant do master & slave drives & from what i have been told they tend to have problems running Linux because of Chip problems in early chip problems in the REV 1, You can work out if the system is a REV 2 by looking for the IDE control chip next to the IDE port there will be a number 2 on it.
Even if this post only helps one person in the world then my work is done. :lolflag:
If any one has more to add please do so any thing like a link to Linux on Mac guides or Where to buy cheap Mac apart from Ebay anything you think that will help is welcome.
