For the last few days I have been desperately trying to run Compiz Fusion on Ubuntu 8.4 with an ATi X 1550 graphics card. I have installed Xgl and the Compiz advanced effect settings program. Every time I try to install a driver after I reboot after the splash screen all I get is a black screen. This can easily be solved by entering recovery mode and selecting the option to fix X server. The problem is this disables the driver. I have tried the Restricted driver, Envy and the one off the ATi website but all of them have the same result. Any suggestions?
