View Full Version : [ubuntu] [SOLVED] Hardy video, scrolling slow and jerky on TiBook

I am running Hardy on my G4 TiBook. I have disabled all desktop effects, compiz, etc. to try to get scrolling and video to perform well. Any player playing DVD or mpeg videos has jerky performance though the video plays and sound works fine. FLV and some low res mpegs play fine.
Scrolling in all apps is slow and jerky.
I have no processes eating CPU or memory and in Dapper video was normal.
I have read that this may be a kernel issue and any advice on how to boot into an older kernel with Yaboot would be very helpful :) like a complete "how to"! Maybe that would work.
Otherwise any help on the video rendering would be most helpful!
Interestingly, I can run a Fedora Core 8 live cd and video rendering is great. Desktop effects work and I can have a desktop cube, wobbly windows, anything. Sound does not work however.

After googling and finally finding a thread on this:

I uninstalled Xgl-xserver and all my problems are gone. No fancy effects but who cares?
