I have a helmet cam AVI file that is nearly an hour and a half long. I want to compress it down to about 4 or 5 minutes. Kino has a feature to save every so many frames for just this sort of thing but I have been unable to get Kino to process the large file. Eventually it freezes my system (Ubuntu 7).
So, I downloaded Avidemux. It's much faster in opening files (because it doesn't have to reformat them) and is easy to use for much of the editing stuff I want to do. But it doesn't have the "save every Xth frame" feature. I cut the 90 minute file into 5 minute pieces figuring I would compress each piece and then splice them together (or load each of them into Kino and then compress it all at once).
But for some reason, Kino is only loading a minute and a half of my footage.
I don't see anything in the settings to limit my file opening. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Kino to the same result. I have downloaded the newer version (1.3.1) and it's doing the same thing.
What to do? Is there a different software that has both the "save every Xth frame" of Kino and the easy opening of Advemux?
