Cannot restart my laptop from Ubuntu

Hi,

I'm completely new to ubuntu so please be patient with me :-)

I installed ubuntu on a new partition alongside my XP on my R60e ThinkPad. Problem is that when trying to restart my computer from ubuntu, it seems that ubuntu is shutting down properly, and then i'm hearing the regular sound of the laptop when it restarts, but the screen remains black and i don't get the choose XP/ubuntu menu. Then i need to manually shut down the laptop and open it again.

I have tried both restarting from the GUI menu, and by running "sudo reboot", with the same result.

Any idea what can be the problem?

Check the /var/log/syslog file to see if there are any errors related to shutdown/reboot, if you want you can post it here.
