I am not sure whether this is easily done or not with the new forums, but it would be nice to have an rss feed system added which details what new posts have occurred on subscribed threads, for a users login.

Can this be implemented? It would be really useful in my opinion.

there is, if you click on the rss feed button in the firefox address bar it asks if you want to subscribe to the ubuntu forums feed ;) link to feed (http://ubuntuforums.org/external.php?type=RSS2)

You mean a feed for the threads that you subscribed to?

I'm not sure, I think it would add more strain to the servers - as you would need to have more feeds for each individual user (there's a lot of them!!).

I'll see if I can find out more though

In theory it should be as much strain as me listing my subscriptions in my control panel. It's a pull not push service.

We just need something to render the rss compliant data :) I say just....

Any news, good or bad?

If this isn't possible then what about the ability to get a feed for a thread?

Instead of a standard url like this:


http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869328

There could be an rss equivalent like this:


http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869328&rss=2.0

And the thread page is rendered in rss 2.0 compliant xml instead...

Can these forums be modified to do this? Is the vBulletin solution flexible enough?
