View Full Version : [ubuntu] Can you boot Linux over USB on a MacBook Pro?

So, with a C2D is this possible yet? I've seen some threads but I don't know what the current state is. Just want to know if it's possible to boot backtrack/helix etc from USB from Mactel hardware.

By no do you mean the firmware on some macs refuses to do it (it clearly works on my Mini for instance), or is it just tricky to get the mbr/vbr code correct so the mac will run it?

An easy way to test i suppose is to just install syslinux to the drive and see what happens.

By all means try it, but it seems that all Intel Macs excepting some of the very first ones will not boot "legacy" operating systems from usb. There is tons and tons of info on what people have tried in several threads here.
