Well, I suggest dual booting or using Wubi. It will allow them to become accustomed to Ubuntu over time. Progress is gradual.

For example Sandy (assumed name) has got to practice on real Excel.

Most Excel like programs are similar enough to be interchangeable, so Sandy could migrate to OpenOffice.org Spreadsheets. There is also the possibility of buying CrossOver Linux (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxlinux/) to allow you to keep some of the familiarity there.

My problem with getting Wubi to work on a computer with low memory and no finances to improve it.

Instead of Wubi you can give Ubuntu a small partition of space to allow you to have Ubuntu and them to have Windows. Also, install some free alternatives to the programs they currently use. In time this may allow them to get familiar to them and be less hesitant to use Ubuntu in the future. When that happens, you can just delete the Windows partition and install Ubuntu on the whole drive.

Posts don't count in any of the discussion forums. You have to post in the help sections to get your bean count up. But that does include sections like Gaming and Leisure.
