Hi All

I have a Ubuntu preloaded Inspiron 1420N and have been having one heck of a time installating Vista on a separate partition. I've already followed the guidelines in a similar thread but have had no luck because of the following symptoms:

- When the Vista installation screen loads "Choose your language", my keyboard and mouse get locked and I can't continue.

It seems I've tried every bios setting to turn various things on/off but nothing seems to get the installer past the first screen.

What's interesting is if I try an XP dvd, I get a BSOD right after the installation files load (Saying that the "Bios isn't compliant"). I've got an old Windows 2000 Advanced Server CD that seems to work however...

Has anyone out there had similar issues with this laptop? I'm not sure whether this is a hardware/software issue as I've updated the BIOS (I'm on rev A09) and am of course using legitimate retail copies of XP, and Vista.

Thanks for any ideas anyone can throw my way!

Hmm. I've ordered a 1420 with Vista, that I wiped and loaded Kubuntu on, and a 1420n that I wiped and loaded Kubuntu on as well.

You do realize it's best to Install Windows BEFORE linux, correct?

yep i realize that its easier to have Windows on it first. I've tried formatting the entire drive but still cannot install Vista (same errors as above).
