The default setting of "do not subscribe" is very irritating. Sometimes I forget to subscribe and then i forget the thread exists and never find out the answers to my questions! I call these my "lost" threads.
At the very least, please change the default to "no email notification" so at least i can visit my User CP and see if i've got any replies.
I know i've started at least two lost threads so far, but there may be up to four. (I came up with some Qs i'm not sure i ever posted)

Search ID's expire quickly, so posting them is useless.
You can change the setting like I said to subscribe by default.
