Application which improves graphics..

I recall, in the past, installing an application which improves the graphics of my system, and specifically making fonts look better. If I remember correctly, it should be quite a popular package.

I know this is very vague, but would anyone, by any chance, know the name of this package?

Perhaps System -> Preference -> Appearence -> Fonts -> Sub-pixel Smoothing ?
