SHIFT works, semicolon works; colon key doesn't work

I don't get it.

This just changed.

System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Layouts

is "Generic 101-key PC" and "USA"

But the colon isn't there; it just doesn't show up

Any ideas?

When this starts to happen I usually think my keyboard is starting to break down. Try the keyboard with different a OS. Does the same thing happen?

Or maybe you need to clean your keyboard? Spill some pop on it?
