I am a newbie here.
I have ubuntu desktop 8.04 lts and just installed the ubuntu server 8.04 lts lamp as well. I am new to ubuntu . Advice me on what else i should install along with this.

I have five websites for charities in africa and my contract with the hosting company is ending. I have bought a server hp proliant m115 and want to host this websites my self as its cheaper this way. I also get to learn something new in life. My friend suggested i get on here and see how wonderful open source is.

So i need someone to instruct me a bit on how to configure my router and port forwarding options, virtual host and how to get a constant update of my ip as am using a dynamic ip. My isp cant give me a static one.

Thanks in advance and please advice me further. If you are wish me to call and you are in the u.s or canada or u.k or nz and on a landline please let me know.

Thanks again.

Have you investigated any other ISPs? Hosting that many sites, I would want at least one IP if you can get it. If not, I would recommend no-ip.com for dynamic DNS.

I second that for no-ip.com it works great!!!

as for port forwarding you'll want to set a static IP(private IP) for your server and forward port 80 to it from your router's configuration.
