Ok, I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I'd like to know if Ubuntu MID edition will work on tablet PC hardware (which are not atom based) such as my good old fujitsu stylistic.
That would really be interesting, even if the device isn't excatly pocket size, it works ok with ubuntu, doesn't have a keyboard but has stylus and touchscreen...

Ok, if anyone knows, just tell me

thx

I'm wondering the same thing, as I've purchased the Lenovo x61 tablet which supports MultiTouch (and what I've read about the touchscreen features with the MID Edition are just too good to miss). I`ve read that it can work on a desktop pc but where are the instructions to do so?! Sigh. I hope someone can help.

I have found this guide (http://https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UMEGuide) online that has some Tutorials. I have never tried any of them so I can't tell you if they are good or not, however if they are in the ubuntu website they should be pretty helpful. Good luck with the experiment.

I'm reading through them now--thank you for the input! :)

No problem, let me know how it goes. I been wanting to try out MID edition in my GPS which runs Windows Mobile but I am afraid of voiding the warranty if I delete Windows Mobile.

No, I don't see any mention of it--they're still being written, I can see. I was really hoping some adventurous user had taken to figuring this out... :)

I've found about the Ubuntu Netbook remix that can be installed on top of a standard Ubuntu is wich is designed to run on UMPCs.
So far, the installation wasn't too painfull using apt§get but the performance and occasionnal crash I experienced are not so encouraging. But I must add that the tablet pc I use is fairly old...

Thanks for the update! I'm still interested in the ubuntu MID edition--does the Netbook remix also have touchscreen capabilities? If so, what has been your experience using it?

Well my notebook uses stylus, which I installed previous to the installation of netbook remix.
The experience itself wasn't conclusive because of the laptop being a little bit slow (it's a 1gHz processor)and I experienced a lot of system not responding for 20-30 secs.
Plus, the general appearance showed some artifacts and misaps, but that might be theme or installation related.
I'll try again when I'll have some free type re-installing the whole laptop from scratch.

For now I am busy converting my father's laptop to ubuntu, and yes wifi and webcam can be painfull with linux, even on Ubuntu...
