Resizing Windows

I'm a Linux Newbie running Ubuntu on my Asus 701 4G Surf and loving it. Due to the small screen size I sometimes have to resize a Window. I would like to make the new window size permanent so I won't have to do it every time I open the app, but I haven't found a way to do this. Is it possible?

I guess I should say I'm using Gnome and I tried right clicking the shortcut>Properties>Launcher and adding --geometry=XxY, but no matter what values I put in Gnome-Terminal opens full screen then.

i know with the Window Manager i use (Fluxbox) i'm able to right click on a window's title bar at the top and go down to "remember" and have Fluxbox remember various elements of the program window, some of which are dimensions and position so that the next time i open the program it uses the same dimensions and position of the last session, hope this helps,
