installing xp over vista - will grub help ?

i need to install xp over vista, can grub be installed somewhere in the xp/vista partition...so that it could boot both of them.
what if i also try to install ubuntu over this dual-boot system...would it detect both xp and vista automatically ?

i have heard of super-grub disk in such cases, but am afraid to use it as in the past it had made me suffer.
