This doesn't even look like an official download or site. No, it's not worth it.

http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Ubuntu-Ultimate-Edition-22863.shtml
It has all details.. but this one is especific Fiesty Fawn version only
The last website has a couple different versions although of Fiesty Fawn

No, it is not worth it. This is basically the same thing as Ubuntu, just with about twice as much stuff preinstalled. You can acheive the same thing with a plain Ubuntu install (which is bloated enough as it is).

First of all, what are you expecting to gain from using this OS?
I assume it is built off the standard ubuntu, with extra bells and whistles, much like Linux Mint. It will no doubt support the repositories via apt etc etc, but will it work 100% with standard Ubuntu updates?
Unless there is something you will gain from using it, I wouldn't bother...just stick with default Ubuntu or one of the supported derivatives.
Although Linux Mint does have a good reputation (but no 64bit support)...

If the features of this appeals to you, install the applications yourself. That's pretty much the only difference I see between ubuntu's release of hardy and this guy's release

Honestly, it looks to me as though someone in middle school or high school thought it would be fun to repackage ubuntu by giving it an (ugly) new theme and pre-installing certain programs. I wouldn't mess with ubuntu's aesthetic. It's pretty spiffy. Also, anyone that makes THAT many typos isn't necessarily going to put together the best product (attention to detail). With some exception, but still.

No it isn't worth it.
Never trust such a modified distribution. It could contain hidden malware.
Also, it contains a lot of un-useful software. Waste of hard-disk space.
I strongly don't recommend it, take your copy from The official Ubuntu website (http://www.ubuntu.com) and customize it by yourself. Is much better that way.

I'm running Ubuntu Ultimate 1.8 and I love it. Yes that is the correct website for the distribution, but I downloaded it from distrowatch.

yep it sure is worth it.
it is not an official sanctioned version from canonical , but put together by one man to help out others wanting to cross over to ubuntu from xp or others who want a more polished ubuntu.
i will bet my left arm the ones in this thread who say it is not worth it are people who have never even bothered to download it and try it.
i have been using Ultimate edition for some time now and it is sheer magic, well worth the d/l and installation

It really surprises me how much criticism flies out whenever a thread on Ultimate Edition is started. And the funny thing is, none of the critics appear to have actually tested it out for a significant amount of time to offer a critique from a user's point of view.
I know it's not for everyone, but then, no distro is. I use it because it works for me. It may come with tons of apps preinstalled, but it runs just as lean as Ubuntu wrt system resources.
Just my 2 cents.

Couldnt agree more with this guy here.
However i did try it, and it most deffinatly wasnt for me. To much fluff n stuff for a minimalist like me :)

Looking at the specs, I will say again what every other critic has said: it is bloated and just preinstalls features that you can install yourself. If I want the programs offered by this "distro" I can go into the package manager and click install several times. There's nothing to test out

It really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a ton of stuff preinstalled, than it is a good choice I guess. I liked running the liveDVD and checking out all the apps that I never knew existed. lol... but in the end it is just too big for me and I stuck with Ubuntu, Zenwalk, and Fedora for my needs.

The last time I checked Distrowatch, UE was ranked 46th for page hits. I won't make any claims as to the relevance of these rankings as an indicator of the actual popularity of a distro, but it definitely shows that UE does fulfil the needs of some linux users.
Yes, I know that many users like to start with a barebones install of a particular linux flavor and build it from scratch(Group 1). Others might like to go with Ubuntu/other, which gives you most of the tools you need so that you have the system set up with a few additional tweaks(Group 2). Still others might want to install a distro which comes preinstalled with all the bells and whistles, and not really care that its taking up about half a GB of additional hard disk space with all the extra applications(Group 3). All 3 groups have an equal right to exist and if a distro is aimed at a specific group, great. If I belonged to group 1, I would not think any less of distros aimed at the other 2 groups.

See, this is what I mean. I made a new design for them, but so far nothing has come out of it.
I haven't tried Ultimate Edition, so I'll reserve further judgment until I do. However, since I'm more of a minimalist, I don't think it would really suit me.

I may be biased, but Ultimate Edition is great. For those who say it is to bloated, they are still thinking in the Windows world. You see, here in the great world of Linux it doesn't matter how many programs you have installed, it only matters how many services you have running. Ultimate Edition comes with the same services running as Ubuntu therefore the performance would be the same. It would be, if UE wasn't tweaked to run better. You also can't install some of the software from the Ubuntu repos because the packages aren't in the Ubuntu repos. Unlike LinuxMint, which uses the Ubuntu repos for the majority of their packages, Ultimate Edition also has their own repo. The packages contained in the repos are alos more up to date than those that are in the Ultimate Edition.

The thing is, I'm not as concerned about how much resources it uses. I simply don't like having so many programs that my menus so long they stretch across the screen. I find it complicated and overwhelming; I try to keep my menus as small as possible.

I can't argue with that, some people don't like all he extra software, while some do. There are a lot of programs that I will never use. I just take them out of the menu.

Well, I'd rather have a distro where I just have to add a few things then take it all out :)

Well I am d/l now and will try tonight. I have not used UE before so I will get a fresh "newb" view of it. Once I try it out I will post back with results/impresions.

I like it but I am waiting until 1.9 comes out because I had to install the awful 8.04.1 update. I saw awful because it changes me to the VESA driver mode and I have to change my xorg.conf and still cant enable the effects. Sorry, I'm babeling :)

I like the fact that it came with a ton of software installed. Since I am fairly new to linux I hadn't tried out a lot of software. This gave me the opportunity to find some programs I wouldn't have even heard of otherwise. Plus every time I need to do something new (i.e. record a desktop session) there already seems to be a program installed to do it. Plus a dark theme is a must for me and overglossed is the gorgeous. I'll never bother with a plain ubuntu installation again.
