I've never use ubuntu to install anything except using apt-get. How would i install something like php-documentor? it doesnt have an apt-get package as far as i know?

Have you checked out the Applications->Add/Remove Programs menu? There might be something useful there.

Not sure what your asking, are you talking about compiling?
