dsl has it's own package system, i think it's called dsl browser or mydsl, something like that.

Two ways to install stuff in DSL:
A) apt-get --- You can enable it if you hunt through those menus. It works and is nice, but the software is dated. (hint: You can use apt-cache search "program" to find programs)
B) MyDSL --- I have no clue how to use it, just look at their wiki or something.

Older versions of aMSN have been broken by the recent protocol upgrade. Check the post here for a bit more info/help:

Sorry, no clue there. I've never had good luck with DSL on any machine I've owned. Nothing against it, it just hasn't worked right with my hardware. Another distribution may work better for you, as well. Just my two cents. Good luck!

You might want to try asking your question over at the DSL forum too: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.cgi
DSL does not use the Ubuntu repositories, so you should not expect all of the same apps/packages to be available in the same way...
Good luck!

I have DSL in a VM so I can tell you everything I know about it.
I know when you enable apt-get you get an old apt-get.
I know that when you install programs that all go into certain areas like apps, system tools,etc...
The problem I always had was Getting Flash :(.
I think your best bet is to go on the DSL forum and ask the best way you can what you want.
Give them a list and they will tell you what to do.

Debian or Arch with Openbox or IceWM or WMaker (not that horrible, bloated, slow thing people call Fluxbox).

+1 for Debian. Also give a look at SliTaz, great little distribution, and it runs Asterisk.

Debian, Slacware, Zenwalk or VectorLinux. See the introduction top 10 lightweight distros (http://lightlinux.blogspot.com/2008/06/top-10-of-lightweight-linux_24.html). I suggest using IceWM as window manager. Just wrote a tutorial to it, see this (http://lightlinux.blogspot.com/2008/08/short-icewm-tutorial.html).
