I was looking at the devices connected to my network and noticed that my xubuntu computer didnt have a name. So how would i come about changing it? For my ubuntu computer and xp computer both have the names I entered during install but I guess i never did that on my xubuntu install. Unless its my router screwing up maybe its the actual name?

it could be that it is not recognizing it correctly. Maybe the router is old and the computer newer?

In Ubuntu, you go to System, Administration, Network (unlock it with your sudo password) and then to General tab, and change the "Hostname"...you'll need to reboot after this. Should be the same in Xubuntu...it seems to be laid out the same as ubuntu.

Xubuntu is laid out a little bit differently, but close enough that I was able to follow your instructions, and they worked perfectly. The layout in Xubuntu is:

APPLICATIONS --> System --> Network

Thank you!
