I just installed Kubuntu on my main computer and the audio is acting weird.

Whenever audio is played, either by the OS or in a player, there is a lot of static and distortion and I cant make out whats playing. The only way I know anything is playing is because of the static.

Ive disabled my onboard sound and followed all of the steps in the Comprehensive Sound Problem Guide (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449) but nothing is working. I could not complete the steps in this guide because the web side for Alsa says I need the Emu10k2 driver and all I can get from the steps in the guide is the Emu10k1 driver (which is what Kubuntu is installing by default). Emu10k1 is for the Live series, not Audigy.

Anyone know of a fix for this?

Ok, a bumpdate.

I have onboard Realtek AC97 Audio. When I turned it back on and pluged my speakers into it, I get great stereo sound. I cant manange to get 5.1 even after enabling the surround channels in the Kubuntu mixer.

I installed the asoundconf package to select default sound card and both show up, but whenever I select my Audigy I just get this static BS.

When I used my AC97 in windows I got some nasty static and interference which is why I relied on my Audigy card, but I dont get that at all in Kubuntu. All I want is functioning 5.1 whether it be Realtek or Creative.

This update was made slight toxicated, forgive spelling and such. Thanks for all the help
