I find them infuriating and not very useful.

How can I disable them? Hopefully without having to resort to greasemonkey.

It's part of the vBulletin software, and I don't think there is a way to disable them

Actually it's part of an add-on mod for vB ;) however turning it on/off on an individual level is probably not possible.
