Zenwalk 5.2 Gnome Edition Beta1

Here is a new option for the fans of Slackware Linux and the GNOME desktop - Zenwalk Linux 5.2 "GNOME" edition. A first beta build was released earlier today: "We are proud to announce that Zenwalk GNOME 5.2 beta is ready for testing. Based on Zenwalk current, it features the latest stable GNOME 2.22.3 desktop, customized with beautiful Zenwalk artwork. Also included are Linux kernel 2.6.25.4, the latest X.Org 7.3 suite of X servers and the next generation of the Netpkg package manager. Zenwalk GNOME follows the 'one application per task' Zenwalk philosophy and provides a complete programming environment for coders. Changes since the alpha version: all known problems and bugs have been fixed; it should work under VirtualBox now; Evince has taken its place in the ISO again; the Metacity compositor is now turned off by default."

Zenwalk was already full of GNOME crap, so this doesn't surprise me.

I like it a lot. Stable and fast.

I am surprised to see that the Gnome version is designed to look like the XFCE version.
When I boot the Gnome version I forget that I am in Gnome and try to right click the desktop to get to my normal XFCE menus..
I'll be sticking with the standard XFCE version, if I want a truer gnome experience I'll just use Fedora or Ubuntu.

I'm *sure* you zenwalkers will be quite happy with this zenwalk addition, but for me, this is just another gnome distro. It's doens't have that extra, IMHO. I wont go into details, because this is my own POV.

Me too. And it doesn't look like the maintainer will bend on this matter.

Or arch, in my case. But the mandriva, ubuntu and fedora gnome desktops are fenomenal as well.

What's going to happen to the XFCE version now? Will they permanently switch over to GNOME? It(XFCE Zenwalk) was so fast on my machine.....I just loved the compositing and was really into Zen computing.

This is just another DE (Desktop Environment) iso. The main Zenwalk version will still be based on XFCE. :)

You know, I was playing with Xubuntu and was surprised that Xubuntu is redesigned to look like Gnome... WTF????!!!???
So I guess the Zenwalk Gnome edition isn't alone in redesigning a DE to look like another. And actually, I like the Zenwalk redesign better than the Xubuntu version.:KS

I suppose it is the only Slackware derivative distro with GNOME. That makes it quite another beast compared with e.g. Ubuntu.
