No, it's been submitted to James Troup.

As I've explained in several other threads, developers are at the UBZ, so they don't have much time to tend to other matters (like Backports). We should get a rush of new packages once UBZ is over.

Sadly it doesn't seem to have SSL support built, even though the correct version of openssl is in the repository. Would it be possible to get it built with that switched on?

I cannot modify the sources like that... and IIRC there was a good reason why it was disabled.

Contact the package's Debian maintainer.

Without ssl support enabled, doesn't that mean that username and password aren't encrypted when say checking your gmail account?

They won't be encrypted when checking gmail or any other mail account.
