Opera so slow

Hi all,

This is my first post!

Opera is my favourite browser, but it often gets stuck with that mouse symbol (equivalent to hourglass in Windows) forever. Rare I get this problem in Firefox.

I've tried a couple of recent versions of Opera, but still get the same thing.

I've finally got Ubuntu to work on my computer, and am now almost divorced from Windows - but this is annoying.

Any ideas?

How did you install opera? What are the system specs? what plugins are you using?

I downloaded program to desktop and installed with Synaptic package manager each time. No problems.

New desktop computer bought a year ago from eBuyer. Not really used it until now.
It's 32 bit with Phoenix BIOS
Celeron CPU 2.66 GHz
System memory 512MiB
Only have Ubuntu on it, and loads of disk space.
Opera seems to work. When it works it's like lightning, but after a couple of Googles it hangs forever.

I don't have any plugins installed (that I know about).
